What makes IB Physics different?

The International Baccalaureate Physics course aims to help students understand the fundamental laws that explain how the universe works. Rather than simply memorising equations, the programme focuses on reasoning, problem-solving, and the ability to apply physical concepts to new situations, developing analytical and critical thinking skills.
At both Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL), success depends on building a strong foundation in key concepts and learning how to tackle increasingly complex problems. That is why, in my lessons, we focus on understanding the subject from day one, reinforcing the topics students find most challenging and developing a methodology that allows them to approach any type of problem with confidence.
The subject is assessed based on the following components:

  • Paper 1: Paper 1A (multiple-choice questions) and Paper 1B (data-based questions). It accounts for 36% of the final grade.
  • Paper 2: Short- and long-answer questions. It accounts for 44% of the final grade.
  • Internal Assessment (IA): A 3,000-word investigation in which the scientific method is applied. It accounts for 20% of the final grade.

* NOTE: It is important to remember that International Baccalaureate grades are awarded on a scale of up to 7 points.
